The Institute of Yilan County History (IOYCH) is the first local institute of history in Taiwan. The main purpose of IOYCH is to collect, access, record, research and promote the local history. For this purpose, the services of IOYCH include compilation of the county history, publication of the Journal and series of books, oral history interview, collection and investigation of local historical materials.

The IOYCH is vested with the kind of mechanism for collecting and preserving historical data. The ultimate goal is to enable the public to know the place where they live and eventually grow. In short, the IOYCH is the class of history for all habitants of Yilan and they are welcome to come over to feel and to touch the history and to enrich each other.

Valuable literatures need warehouse facilities to preserve. Besides the traditional way of preservation and management, the digital technology provides a more convenient and efficient option for the duplication, preservation and use of the historic material.

The IOYCH publications include The Yilan Journal of History, Monograph Series of Yilan History and Yilan Literature Series. In addition to winning award, these publications have become the necessary references for persons interested in studying Yilan.

Activities

 

The Yilan Research Symposium is an academic event held every two yearys.

 

The activities hosted by the IOYCH are mainly exhibitions, symposium, seminar and forum concerning the Yilan Research.

The Yilan research seminar covers folk historical material introduction, lectures and field investigation.

Exhibitions are held mainly with the literatures collected by IOYCH.
